ABOUT Us / FAQ
GameDevSalt is a blog for short observations and experiences sent in by readers about life as a game developer. Some of these will undoubtedly be stories about crunch, harassment, and mismanagement. We also hope that there will be stories about successes, humor, weird bugs/features, and the like. Our goal is to create a space that is collaborative, open, and relatable, while still respecting the anonymity and privacy of our readers.
We invite everyone to contribute! Any negative stories should be told without any identifying information (for example, saying you work at a“AAA studio” is fine, naming the studio itself is not). We reserve the right to decide which stories to publish, and whether they need editing.
Our decisions will be final. You will sometimes not agree with them, but we ask that you respect them nonetheless.
I work in QA / marketing / analytics / admin at a studio. Can I submit a story?
Yes! If you work in the games industry, we want your stories!
Why don’t you allow comments on stories?
Comments are disabled on GameDevSalt. We are a small team, and we don’t have time to do all the moderation that would be necessary for comments. We’re also familiar with how the internet works, and we don’t want to subject people who submit upsetting stories to additional trauma. That said, we think that the issues that arise in stories should be discussed! If you think so too, we encourage you to do so on the platform of your choice.
What’s the point of this site?
We want to share some stories of what it’s like to work in the game industry, without worrying about damaging a company by identifying it. Part of the nature of games means we all make mistakes, but paradoxically often cannot discuss them – this gives some devs an outlet, if they choose.
