I’ve heard about companies doing a lot of different things given the current situation with racial injustice and police brutality, so I wanted to put together a list of things that might help. This list came out of a conversation with friends from different studios, so it’s not a list from any particular studio, but what different studios are doing:
- Donating to various racial justice organizations
- Donating to bail funds in their city
- Having open conversations internally across the studio
- Posting messages decrying police brutality and racism on social media
- Messaging internally to employees that Black Lives Matter
- Providing support (e.g. counseling) for people if they need it
- Providing time off for people if they need it
- Offering legal advice for anyone at the studio who is arrested during the protests
- Hiring a diversity and inclusion manager
- Adding books on how to be anti-racist to the studio library
- Adding books by black authors to the studio library
Editor’s note: if you have other suggestions for how to support the Black community or Black game developers, email us at salt@gamedevsalt.com and we will add it to the list!
